Kidney failure occurs in about one in every 2,000 people. Kidney failure means the kidneys are not doing their job of:
  • removing wastes and water from the blood
  • balancing chemicals in the body
  • controlling blood pressure
  • helping to produce red blood cells
  • producing vitamin D which keeps the bones strong and healthy

There are two types of kidney disease:

  1. Acute kidney failure
  2. Chronic kidney disease (CKD)
