At home
Whether you live alone or with someone, there may come a time when you need some help and support to carry on with daily life. This is especially true for the elderly. Couples often want to go on doing everything for each other, but this can become quite a strain.
The help you need may be simple, such as having someone do your shopping. Or it may be complex, such as having someone help you with personal hygiene, dressing, and preparing meals.
Ask your renal medical social worker about local organizations that provide such help.
At work
Know your rights. Employment law and disability law are very complex and you may want to seek some advise.
Most people can continue to work effectively and your employer does not have the right to terminate your contract just because of your diagnosis.
The amount of time you take off sick as a result of your condition is likely to be of concern to your employers if it affects your ability to do your job. Discuss with your employer your condition and your ability to carry out your duties duties and the time-off you may require for medical appointments.
